My Review:
By Lora Jarvis
4 out of 5 hearts
Kris & Jessie have been characters in each book by Ms. George that I have read. I enjoyed getting to know them and their history through this book. Though I haven’t read Reckless Redemtpion (Beau and Danni’s story), I have really loved getting to know everyone in the band and the family as they call it.
This story was uniquely told mostly in retrospect. Kris and Jessie first met on Jessie’s first day of Kindergarten when Kris stopped a bully from bothering her. From that point on, they were best friends. Jessie hung with Kris and the guys and was so happy for their success and launch into the music industry.
Both Kris & Jessie had less than perfect home lives. Jessie’s mom was an alcoholic, drug user who liked to physically and mentally abuse her daughter. Kris’ dad was also an alcoholic who liked to beat his son until Kris was old enough to start defending himself physically at which point his dad just started worse verbal abuse.
Their story is full of heartbreak and true love. There were many moments in this novel when I was crying for them and what they had lost, but there was also great joy for them as well. Ms. George does a wonderful job of putting the characters in my head and really making me feel like part of the story.
One of my favorite quotes is from Kris.
I stepped closer to her and traced her cheek with my fingers. “It’s not luck, Jess. You and me? It’s fate.”
This quote really summed up their relationship for me in such a great way. They really seemed to be the perfect couple who lived through some of life’s roughest moments but used each other’s strength to get thru and came out better than ever before.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys rocker romances.
