This story gets four and a half hearts from me.

This book is full of Mystery. Action! And enough sexual tension to drive this girl batty! Author Candace Knoebel sucks you into the fascinating world of the Night Watchman with her vivid details of the world. She paints an elaborate picture for her readers to get lost in. There were times I felt I was walking along side Faye and Jaxen! Candace has such an intricate web of surprises she’s woven for us in this new series. I love how she slowly lets it unfold. In this series monsters really do go bump in the night.

Faye Middleton the lead heroine of this series thought her entire life she was not like the other Night Watchman. And boy was she right. Faye is absolutely badass! Faye gets a bomb dropped on her the night of the Culling Ceremony that would send your average eighteen year old running for the hills. But Faye is anything but average! Faye’s spunky, full of life, and a survivor. Her inner monolog is only one aspect I love about her. She doesn’t take crap from anyone. Including the mysterious hottie Jaxen Gramm!

Jaxen Gramm is mysterious, dark, sexy, and keeps everyone at arm’s length. He is one of the lead Hunters of the Night’s Watchman assigned to teach and protect Faye. He is strong and does not let anyone into the walls he has built up around him. What he doesn’t realize is that Faye is different. She pushes against his walls and drives him mad. Jaxen is one of those characters you are dying to know what makes him tick! And Candace slowly gives us insight on why Jaxen is the way he is.

There are tons of supporting characters in this story that I absolutely love. Two of my favorites are Gavin Gramm and Weldon. These two bring in some comic relief and have a serious edge to them.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Candace left me growling at the end of this book! I need more now!
