Author Spotlight: Sydney Logan
I met Sydney back in August when I fell in love with her story Soldier On. I just had to let her know how much I loved her story. She was such a sweetheart when I babbled in her IMs about the story.
1. What book influenced you the most
growing up?
Forever
by Judy Blume. I probably checked it out a thousand times from my high school
library.
2. Name someone other than a family
who has been a huge supporter during your writing career.
One
of my editors, Kathie Spitz. It’s because of her that I’m writing at all. She’s
touched everything I’ve ever published.
3. What is your writing style? Do you
outline or just write it as it comes to you and let the story unfold as you
write?
I
mentally outline. I always have my beginning, middle, and end mapped out. I
fill in the rest as I go along.
4. Where did the idea of your current
book come from?
For
the past three years, I’ve published a holiday short story and released it on
Black Friday. Once Upon a December is
a collection of three short stories—two of which have been previously published
in ebook format. The newest addition, “What Child Is This,” came about because
I really wanted to write an angel story. I don’t write a lot of fantasy, but
this was definitely fun. There were a few tears, too.
5. Is it hard for you to decide what
the titles of your books will be?
It’s
hard only in that I can’t write the story without it. I must have the title
first!
6. How much research did the book
take?
Not
much. For “What Child Is This,” I researched flight paths and how long it would
take to get to a certain destination, but otherwise, I didn’t have to research
much. Fantasy is great that way!
7. Is there a message you hope your
reader grasps?
I
guess the message for this book would be that life sometimes gives us second
chances, and we should embrace them.
8. What is your next writing
adventure?
I’m
working on my fourth novel as we speak (or type lol)!
9. When can I start stalking you for
details on your next book release?
Give
me until Valentine’s Day. I should have some idea then. :)
10. Who designed your cover?
The cover for Once Upon a December was created by T.M. Franklin. She’s a YA author who likes to dabble in graphics, too. All of her work is amazing.
11. Can you give me a little something
from your next writing project to tease your fans with?
Here’s a little
something from my WIP, Pros and Cons:
As I slip
quietly out of his suite and rush toward the elevator, I can’t deny I’m feeling
a little better about the weekend.
That is, until
the elevator doors open.
Standing there,
leaning against the stainless steel wall with a cocky smile on his face, is the
one person I really didn’t want to see this weekend.
With a miserable
groan, I step inside the elevator and furiously stab at the buttons.
“Are you
following me, Summers?”
“I’d follow your
dimples anywhere, York.”
Ethan Summers is
infuriatingly charming and handsome. Both assets have proven to be beneficial
to his career and detrimental to mine.
“Well, these
dimples just lifted Bradley Jones’ credit card numbers.”
“Impressive.
Although, one might argue that a more superior con artist would be capable of
accomplishing such a feat without showing a little skin. Really, Jenna, I’m
disappointed.”
He rarely calls
me by my first name. Last names have always been our thing.
“Were you
watching me?”
“Every
heterosexual man in the casino was watching that little performance. Nice legs,
by the way.”
Crap.
“That’s not
good,” I mutter.
“No, but I
enjoyed it.”
Ethan grins as
the elevator doors open. I don’t protest when he grabs me by the elbow and
leads me toward the nearest exit. It’s not brightly lit, but there’s a very
nice bouncer who Ethan greets by name who allows us to walk right out the door
and into the starry Nevada night. He doesn’t let go of my arm as we hurry
toward a black SUV.
“Why are you
helping me?”
“You just
drugged a millionaire and stole his credit card info. I think it’s best that we
get you out of town.”
That doesn’t
really answer my question, but I can’t argue with his logic.
