This story was hard for me to read because I can so relate with Ava throughout the story. I also fell in love with my best friend before he knew it (at least admitted knowing it) and definitely before the feelings were reciprocated.
Sam Farrow and Ava Meyers have been best friends for 20 years. Their friendship has gotten them through some really tough challenges and they aren’t willing to put it on the line to chance getting more from each other.
A pretend date leads to a pretend kiss which leads to a friends with benefits angle on their relationship. Despite the fact that Ava knows she’s in love with Sam, she still goes through with the sex hoping she’ll get it out of her system.
Sam, being a true guy, doesn’t even realize that there is anything more to the sex than just sex. In fact one of my favorite thoughts from Sam centers around the start of the sexual escapades:
Sure, his personal spank bank was chock-full of depraved ideas, but in all decency he couldn’t expect Ava to clear the lot of them.
There were so many moments in the book I wanted to strangle Sam and then Ava for their lack of honesty with each other and their blinders they were wearing. I know exactly how Ava felt and was crushed with her many times. Sam was such a great guy and I hated how things were going for awhile.
Ms. Kelly did a great job of putting me right there in the heads of these characters and I was rooting for them from the start. This was my first book by her, but I just one-clicked Truth or Dare to read about Maggie & Tyler’s relationship, too. I love a good romance and this was definitely one to look into if you love a good romance, too.
