After surviving multiple tragedies, Savannah Mason is alive, yet she refuses to live. Her distorted reality makes her believe that anything other than working hard will tempt fate, thereby inciting further misfortune upon her. In her eyes, a very simple life is the only way to guarantee freedom from further pain. As a veteran suffering the horrid effects of post traumatic stress disorder, Fletcher Reilly is also a survivor, and after a chance meeting with Savannah, he makes it his mission to free her from the torment of her past. He wins her over, and they start a beautiful life. However, the more Fletcher helps Savannah, the more he falters with his own healing. Demons from his past launch a terrible assault upon him just as Savannah finally discovers how wonderful life can be. Fletcher tries to hide his struggles from her, but the day comes when he must reveal his secret. Savannah is forced to choose between sparing her fragile heart by leaving, or totally committing to the only man she’s ever truly loved. The road promises to be arduous and trying, but she decides to give it her all. Will Savannah’s love be enough to see him through the hardest battle he’s ever had to fight or will their relationship buckle under the pressure of an unseen enemy?

4 out of 5 Stars

This novel started off amazing! My favorite quote in the whole novel came in the first 5% of hte book. Savannah Mason has lived thru her share of tragedies in life. She didn’t have the best upbringing and her job as a phone operator with the electric company isn't great, but this call totally made me stop and reflect on real life, not just the fictional world. An elderly man calls in, but he’s called the electric company instead of the water company so his wife gets on the phone:

“So here’s the truth -- marriage sucks because one day it will end. It’s inevitable. The beginning is usually a fairy tale; the end hurts more than you could ever comprehend. It’s what you do with the middle that’s the most important. Make the most of it. Now I’m going to walk up front to give Stanley a kiss before I get on the phone with the water company.”

The very next call changes everything for Savannah. It’s Fletcher Reilly and he convinces Savannah to meet him for a dinner date -- and he’s bringing a friend so she can as well. Though it’s way out of her comfort zone, she agrees and that date changes everything for her.

Fletcher is able to get Savannah to open up, to enjoy life, to really live. Fletcher is a military veteran with his own demons, but they work together to really get a life they want to have. One of my favorite lines from Fletcher is also one of my favorite things about books (where the author is able to put the name of the novel into the story):

“Ah, Savannah. Those words melt my heart. I love you, too. I’m yours always.”

The love in this book runs so deep that I could feel it in my whole body. Fletcher and Savannah are such an amazing couple and the way they grow and change through the novel is amazing and heartwarming.

Though there was a point in the book where I was able to make predictions about what would come, I didn’t see it playing out like it did. I really enjoyed the book - read it in less than 24 hours!! If you’re looking for a great story with serious character development, this story is for you.
