OUAA synopsis
Chrissie Parker is not an ordinary college freshman. Her father, Jack, is a beloved music icon from the sixties. She was raised in a sheltered world of privilege. Then a whirl-wind spring romance with British superstar Alan Manzone rockets her into a tabloid media frenzy. Some loves prove impossible to leave behind, even at UC Berkeley, though Chrissie is determined to live a normal life as a college girl.
Just when things start getting on track for Chrissie, Alan storms back into her world, desperate to reclaim the love of the girl he should have never have let go of and cannot forget. Chrissie must also contend with Neil Stanton, a guy from her hometown who she never wanted to see again, working as a campus janitor, and as irritating and unavoidable as ever. Chrissie fast learns what it means to be a girl of tokens and tears: the clandestine girlfriend of a famous man, and the loved friend of a guy who is perfect for her, but unable to claim her heart. As Chrissie fights to build her own future, she is caught between the love of a friend and the love of her life.

This story does leave us with a cliffie. Not a "I cannot live without the next book," but a "I cannot wait to find out what happens" kinda cliffie.

There may be a spoiler listed below on accident. So, read with caution. It was not on purpose.

The cover and title of this book captivated me instantly. It is alluring and pulls you in to look at it. I think it portrays the heroine Chrissie Parker perfectly. She is innocent, shy, and not quite sure of herself. She is hiding from the world still in this book.

This story is well written and flows beautifully. Susan Howard takes us down the road of a young girl trying to come into her own. Chrissie is still working on the fact that someone could truly love her.

Chrissie Parker is still in love with Alan Manzone when she returns to Berkley. She is just going to the ropes. She struggling to find her place on the large campus. She does not understand why her professor is pushing her so hard and until someone lets her know that he only pushes the ones he fills has true potential. But she just cannot wrap her mind around it.

Throughout this book, I was constantly wishing Chrissie would tell her best friend to get a life and move out. Chrissie is awful about letting people walk all over her and not seeing them for who they are. I am about as much of a fan of Rene as I am of Alan.

If Chrissie could just let Alan go, she could have a beautiful life with Neil Stanton. I absolutely loved the bond that Chrissie and Neil developed throughout this story. Neil fell for Chrissie even when he tried his hardest not to. He accepted her for who she was with no stipulations. He did not push her to be someone else. He wanted her anyway he could get her.

Neil Stanton was my favorite character in this book. He had issues but worked them out and became a better person in the end. He did not think that Chrissie would want to stay friends once his truth was revealed. But she proved to him that she was there for him and understood.

He was in love with Chrissie and wanted nothing more in the world than to have her love him back. This man is crazy about Chrissie.

Chrissie in her own way loves Neil even if she doesn’t see it yet. He is her rock and best friend. He is truer to her than her so-called best friend Rene.

I am really hoping in the next book Chrissie will see that Neil was there all along for her and is the right choice. They have a true friendship and that is hard to find. To me the connection between Neil and Chrissie was much stronger than Alan and Chrissie.
