REVIEW
4 out of 5 stars

This series was a great read. I fell in love with all of the characters and was excited to continue their journey in this novel.

However, I didn’t love this one nearly as much as I wanted to. Consumed (book 2) really drew me in and had me on the edge of my seat the entire novel. This one started out that way and I was happy with the way things were going, but I didn’t feel the connection with Harlow that I had felt. Jax was still the uber great boyfriend and I was constantly cheering for him as evidenced by my favorite quote from him in this book:

“I want this, Harlow,” he said, his hands roaming the length of my body while his brown eyes locked onto mine. “I want to wake up to your beautiful face every single day. I want to build a future with  you...if you’ll let me.”

I hated that she was still hesitant, but I loved once she realized what she wanted and really went after it. I love the realism that Ms Hannigan gives these characters and how she is able to make me feel like I’m in the coffee shop or walking across campus or figuring out things right along with Harlow that were revealed in other books, but weren’t givens.

Most of the secrets were told and nothing was forever damaged, but I have to say that book 2 is still my favorite of the series. I love the relationships and the people, but the ending of this one just fell flat for me and left me wanting so much more. I definitely recommend this series though and hope that others will read an enjoy it as much as I did.

Harlow & Iain aren’t the typical couple. They aren’t what one would normally find themselves diving into the world of and enjoying the read. Harlow’s life has been hard. She’s suffered much more than most high school students, and she’s suffered most of it alone. Iain is actually her high school English teacher.

Their first encounter is the tipping point for their relationship. Though he’s 11 years older than her and she should be off-limits they pursue something together. He’s able to comfort her and bring her back to life in a way she hasn’t ever really been.

At one point when they’re discussing the fact that their relationship shouldn’t be happening, Iain says to Harlow five words that resonated with me -- even now after finishing the book.

You love who you love.

The story takes some twists and turns and has some subject matter that would be hard for those who have suffered from traumatic sexual experiences. I did enjoy this story and can’t wait to continue the trilogy.

5 out of 5 stars

This is maybe the best 2nd book of a trilogy I’ve read ever. The author has me totally on the edge of my seat wondering and hoping and wishing and thinking about what could happen. Harlow is still insecure, but she’s finding herself in college with Jenna as her roommate. She hasn’t heard anything from Iain and she’s still dwelling on that failed relationship.

Enter Jax Walker! And boy, does he make an entrance. At less than a quarter way through the book, he’s trying to convince Harlow that there is something between them:

“Come on, I know you feel it. I can’t be the only one who feels this...connection.” His voice grew deeper, almost husky, the rumbling low tones vibrating into my core, making my pulse do strange things.

The one thing this book was full of was secrets. Everyone is keeping secrets from everyone and it got a little overwhelming sometimes trying to decide if they were better kept as secrets or if they should share.

However, Jax was totally committed to Harlow and wouldn’t let her get away with backtracking and trying to leave him. At one point he even told her that if she ran, he’d chase her. ***Swoon***

POSSIBLE SPOILERS -- MAY NOT WANT TO READ AFTER THIS::::
After the epilogue of book one, I expected Iain to play a bigger role in this book in person, but he didn’t show up till the end of the novel and then I sort of started to hate Harlow for even thinking about letting him back in her life when Jax was so perfect. Of course, there wasn’t any resolution which I’m assuming is what book 3 will do.
