Blurb
My name is Jaxson Albright. To my friends I’m known as Jax. I’m the disgraced son of well-known Politician, Malcom Albright. You could say I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I was supposed to follow in my father’s footsteps and move into politics. My whole childhood was spent being groomed for this role, but that wasn’t what I wanted. I had other plans.
To my family’s disgust, I’m inked, I’m pierced and I own and run a tattoo parlour, in the hip suburb of Newtown. I fit in here. I can be the man I was destined to be, the man my family are ashamed of. The son they regret having.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my saviour, Candice. My pink-haired angel. We grew up in the same circle, but like me, she’s an outcast. She refused to conform to society’s ways. She’s the only one who stuck by me and not only encouraged, but supported my dream.
I love her. No, correction—I’m in love with her. I have been for as long as I can remember. She has no idea how I feel. It’s a battle I struggle with daily. I’ve kept my secret all these years because I couldn’t risk losing her. That’s a chance I’m not prepared to take, because she’s my best friend; my only real family.
I’ve spent the last few years moving from one hot chick to the next, trying to mask these feeling I have. But it doesn’t help—I can’t get her out of my head. She still owns my damn heart.
How do you get over the girl you know you can never have? And how do you live without the one person on this earth who is made for you?
She’s my soulmate.

When this book very first started I connected with Jax's character. That poor boy did not fit in with his own family. And instead of them trying to see anything from his point of view, they pushed him away. I was furious at his parents. All I wanted to do was hug that poor boy.
Jaxson Albright had always been in love with the girl that stole his breath. She was his heart. Candy was his entire world even if he did not have the strength to tell he how he truly felt in the beginning.
Watching Jax with Candice "Candy" Crawford warmed my heart. She was his best friend, the one person who understood him completely and pushed him to open is tattoo parlor that he dreamed of. This girl loved him more than he even realized from the beginning.
When Jax follows his dreams and opens his tattoo shop, I did a girlie squeal. This man needed to find himself. And when he bumped into his girl Candy again I beamed. He was a wreck and going through women like they were water. No woman could hold a candle to his Candy. I won't lie, though. I wanted to smack the back of his head for holding her at arm's length. He needed her and she needed him.
Jax was that possessive alpha that drives you mad one moment and melts your panties the next. He was stubborn and loving in all the right ways. I just adored his character.
‘You drive me crazy, Candice. I want to kiss you so bad right now.’‘Well, kiss me then,’ I breathe. ‘I don’t want to lose you again,’ he whispers. ‘You’re never going to lose me,’ I say, cupping his face in my hands. ‘Never. I lost you once, and I won’t let it happen again. I can’t live without you in my life, Jax.’‘Candice,’ he murmurs as his hand slides into my hair. ‘Why can’t I resist you?’
Candy thought she had won the lottery when she found her Jax. So much had happened since she had last seen her lost boy who ran away. They both had secrets they did not want the other to know. But they made it work.
I loved how even with how much had happened these two stayed friends. It really warmed my heart, even if I wanted to yell at them both as I read along. I understood it. But I needed these two to heal each other.
I must say that I absolutely adored little Maddie. This little girl stole the show a few times. She was just precious. There was no way that Jax could not have fell in love with this innocent child. She loved him just the way he was.

4 1/2 out of 5 stars
I read Bastard by JL Perry last September and fell head over heels for Carter & Indiana. I didn’t think I could read another book by her and get all the feels again, but I so did.
Jax and Candice have a wonderful love story as well. From the very first page I could feel their draw to each other and the reasons why they sly away from each other. All the way to the last page, I was involved in their story and kept reading to make sure they got the story I wanted for them.
Jax defies his family’s wishes to the point of being disowned by them. He gives up his relationship with his best friend, Candice, because she disappears and he doesn’t know how to get in touch with her. BUT he creates a good life for himself when he opens his own tattoo shop and buys a home for himself. Running into Candice is unexpected and welcome, though her secrets could tear them apart.
I enjoyed the way this story played out and all of the facets of their relationship - from friends, to lovers, to family. It was a wonderful story full of heart and soul and it didn’t hurt to see more of Carter & Indi, either
I can’t wait to see what else we get from this author as my one-click finger is itchy!!
