Synopsis
“I’m sending you a girl.”
“What?”
“She needs sorting
out. I’m talking
Exit Strategy.”
Exit Strategy. That’s what we call
deprogramming these days. You might call it brainwashing. It’s one of my
skills. Give me a man whose idea of heaven is a suicide vest, and I can turn
him into a peace loving hippy wannabe.
“She’s a white widow?”
“No. Human trafficking victim turned sex slave and mule. She’s a fucking mess.”
Christ, poor little bint. Now I knew why Suarez was calling me.
Colonel Rory
"Mac" Mackenzie, covert operations expert, is all
set for an undercover job when an old friend lands him with
Pepper, a human trafficking victim of a Moroccan-Turkish crime syndicate.
Unable to turn her away, Mac now has two missions: to infiltrate a terrorist
training camp in the Sahara and to become a Master for Pepper.
Warning: contains graphic violence and sex.

This book is well written and is very technical when it comes to describing war and mercenary procedures. There are a few spots I wished the book would have focused more on Mac and Pepper and maybe not have been wrapped up in the war game, or maybe broken into two books. I would’ve loved a little more of pepper and Mac.
With that being said, AJ’s a master at character development. She took a character that was past broken and slowly pieced her back together with the help of a man who showed her undying support and love. The way she writes her stories takes the reader on a journey right alongside her characters. You feel their pain and love. You suffer right along with them if they suffer.
This book pulled all my raw emotions into a tight ball at the beginning. AJ Adams had my heart bleeding for her heroine Pepper when this book started. I wanted to crawl in this book and strangle everyone who had harmed her and broken Pepper to a raw emotionless mess. The emotions I felt as Pepper relieved and worked through her torcher killed me. Pepper was one strong woman who never knew she was strong… Or smart for that matter.
One thing I loved about this book, AJ took a broken woman who wanted to die if she had to endure anymore of the torture and slowly turned her into a woman with confidence and respect for herself.
And we cannot forget mister Rory Alistair MacKenzie aka Mac. I loved Mac from the moment he was introduced to us. Mac was one of those characters you are just bound to fall in love with. Mac was damaged and had lost a lot. But he also was aware of what he had lost and what he wanted to do to try and fix his life. And when Pepper is pretty much dropped into his lap, he does whatever he can to learn how to help her heal.
The love, patience, and understanding Mac showed Pepper had me smiling throughout the book. He knew he was the world’s worst master. Owned it and slowly did what he could to get Pepper to see he was just Mac or her Sir.
“You are brilliant, love. I’m so proud of you.” ~Mac
