I haven’t read the other two Southern Boys books YET, but it was easy to follow along with this novel and I immediately fell in love with Colt just like Alex when he was so kind to his momma. He was so kind and gentle with her and his wink was something I could just see whenever it was mentioned.

I love series books because as the series progresses you can go back and get a good look at what’s happening with the other characters and how their lives are in the HEAs. Even though I haven’t read the other books, meeting Gavin & Maria and Reed & Kori in this book made me want to go back and read their stories about how they met and got together. I definitely like the HEA in a book.

Alex is so closed off in the beginning, but the way that she warms up to the people of Brooklet was endearing. She was a lot stronger than she felt like she was and the people there were just small town folk with hearts of gold. The way she cares so strongly for her daughter, Maddi, and will do whatever it takes to protect her makes my heart happy, too.

I love when a man can confess is compassion and love for his woman -- especially when confronting her father. Colt’s confession made me cry happy tears:

“I can promise you that Alex and Maddi will never have to fear me. They will never feel unsafe or unloved as long as I am with them. They mean a great deal to me and, without them, I feel empty. They became a part of my life, a part of my heart. I need them in my life, sir. I will do everything in my power to protect them,” I assured him.

Though the road isn’t smooth and though they have to endure some darkness, the fact that Colt and Alex work thru it all together makes this book great.
