Author Spotlight:: Al Daltrey Interview Questions
Have you ever met someone and it felt like you have known them for ages? I am that way with Al Daltrey. He was an
author I followed a few months ago but never really spoke with until right after Christmas. His PA Tiffany Huegele emailed me and asked me if I would be interested in reading A Condo with Two Views. I warned her that I was one picky BDSM reader.
Let’s just say the rest is history. I messaged Al that I loved his book. It may have only been a little over a month
ago, but I feel like I’ve known him longer. He is one of the nicest people I have met.
If you are looking for well written BDSM book that make you think outside the box and have you squirming and groaning as you read, look no further!
One of my favorite things about Al’s stories is that his men make mistakes and own them. In so many books I get
frustrated with how some Doms are portrayed. And Al’s subs are strong in my eyes. They know what they want and go after it.
Let's get to know Mr. Daltrey.
1) Can your fans find you at an upcoming event? If so please provide the details of the event or events.
Unfortunately, I don’t do signings. My books are hardcore BDSM, there I need to keep my identity confidential.
Writing is only a hobby for me, and my career would be at risk. Society is still very judgmental about the lifestyle.
2) Do you listen to music while you write? If so, is it different with each book or series?
I do listen to music while I write. However, I tend to steer toward easy listening music if I’m writing, nothing
too heavy. So I will listen to Ray Lamontagne, Ben Harper, Amos Lee, Tracy Chapman, Lucinda Williams.
3) What is your favorite book right now?
I don’t read all that much. The next book on my TBR is ‘The Life of Anna’ by Marissa Honeycutt.
4) What was your inspiration that started your writing career?
I have an Author friend whose name is Polecat. He inspired me to start writing, as I had a small role in some of his
novels, providing scene ideas.
5) What book influenced you the most growing up?
I would say ‘The Story of O’ and ‘The Beauty Series’ by Anne Rice. Both books were, at the time, awe-inspiring for
me.
6) Name someone other than a family who has been a huge supporter during your writing career.
Tiffany Huegele. I honestly want to succeed as much for her, as for myself.
7) How did you become interested in writing this genre?
For me, things are slightly in reverse. I was not interested in writing per se, and then decided on the BDSM
genre. Instead, I was interested in BDSM, and then decided to write about. I don’t think I will ever write in another genre, as writing itself is not of interest to me.
8) What is one question you have always wanted to be asked during an interview but never have been.
What’s your email address so we can direct the female fans to send you their nude pics. (( *Laughs Hard* We have totally failed on this front! And yes, I know you are teasing! *Serious face* They really do not need your email, they can just IM you. That way if they become stalker-ish you can just block them!))
9) What is your writing style? Do you outline or just write it as it comes to you and let the story unfold as you write?
I have an outline before I begin. I spend time upfront sorting out the characters, the setting, the premise and the
plot. By the time I start writing, it’s all mapped out in a one or two page outline.
10) How has becoming an author changed you?
It hasn’t, I don’t think. I mean, am
I an Author? On Amazon, anyone who strings together 50K words is an Author. Is anyone who strums a guitar a musician? I don’t know...I don’t feel I’ve achieved enough success to be considered an ‘Author’. ((Well, if my opinion counts you are an author in my eyes. Your books are fantastic.))
11) Where did the idea of your current book come from?
I always liked the idea of a submissive being used in a condo building. She would become, in effect, a fish
in an aquarium. Secondarily, I was always curious about stories written from two POVs. Lastly, I wanted a story where the Dom and the sub struggle with real relationship issues. The culmination of those three concepts became ‘A Condo With Two Views’.
12) Is it hard for you to decide what the titles of your books will be?
No, that part comes very easily to me. The hard part is plugging away, night after night, getting the story on
paper.
13) Tell me about your book.
Jack and Chloe are the perfect couple. Young, hip, urban. They have a D/s relationship, and while there is
enormous love and trust, Jack enjoys sharing Chloe with other men and woman – all within their condo building. Everything is great, until the train falls off the rails. Just like life…sometimes things happen, and you are derailed.
14) Did the idea behind this book hit you in the middle of the night or while driving your car?
I think a book is more than a single idea. It’s really a whole series of ideas rolled into one. I like to map out a book while I drive to work. But it doesn’t happen in one shot. You get the initial premise one day, but you put the pieces together over several days.
15) How much research did the book take?
The only research I did was with regards to the city of San Francisco. The story takes place there, so I had to look up where the characters live, shop, eat, play, etc. For example, in the story Chloe goes to Cirque du Soliel one night, so I looked up where Cirque plays in San Francisco, including the specific show.
16) What is your favorite thing you learned while doing the research for this book?
The history behind Ghiardelli Square, and the company itself. Funnily enough, while this I was writing, by coincidence, my wife brought a whole bunch of their chocolates home (it was Christmas).
17) Is there a message you hope your reader grasps?
Absolutely. That Doms are not these super-beings often portrayed in other BDSM books. Doms are just human beings who also fuck-up and make mistakes. And subs should always stand up for themselves, even in a BDSM relationship. ((Really hopes people take this away from this interview))

18) What is your next writing adventure?
It will be called Riverwalk, and unlike anything out there. That’s all I will say.
((Seriously, Al! *Huffs and pouts* Like holding a carrot out in front of a rabbit!! This is going to drive me bananas!))
19) When can I start stalking you for details on your next book release?
Riverwalk is tentatively planned for summer of 2015.
((Let the stalking for deets begin!))
20) Can you give me a little something from your next writing project to tease your fans with?
Tiffany thinks I should write a series. So…I think I will do a series at some point. I just don’t want it to be a lame soap-opera type series.
21) Who designed your cover?
Tiffany Huegele. ((Tiffany has killer skills!))
22) Is it hard for you to decide on the cover?
It’s not hard…but it’s painstaking. Tiffany and I will look at dozens of variations. Even if we have to make 100 revisions, we will keep going until we are both completely happy. The other person that gets involved is my wife, who has great taste – and is impartial. She gives us that oft-needed third opinion.

3. Strangest place you’ve had sex?
Greyhound bus while still in high school.
