Blurb
Life in his sleepy hometown proves intolerable until he finds solace in a lakeside cabin with vivacious young carpenter, Max O’Dair. In the shadow of the epilepsy that periodically plagues Max, he and Jed form an unspoken bond. After a late night episode, Jed realizes how much Max means to him, and life has taught him not to waste time.
But the lines between contentment and complacency are blurred. Things left hidden resurface to tear through their world, and before they can repair the damage, death comes to call again. Faces, past and present, rally around them to weather the storm, but before long, they are left with only love.
5 out of 5 stars
This book knocked me off my feet! Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. Jed stole my heart from the first page and meeting Max was a delight. I really, really loved this book. It wasn’t an easy read at times. I cried a few tears, but I also laughed out loud a couple of times. I enjoy all genres of romance, but military romance - when done right - gets me in the gut every time -- and this author did it right!
There were secrets on both sides. Hidden illness. Hidden identities. Lost loves. Understated feelings and emotions. And a cute, fluffy dog! Though he never thought he would, Jed comes back to his hometown after a bombing left him too injured to return to active duty. Max lives in Ashford because his sister does. They both suffer from life altering illnesses, but the way they fall for each other and take care of each other warmed my heart.
This book is a must read for me - I would really love to read it again for the first time already (and I only finished hours ago). If you are looking for a sweet, fluffy story this is NOT the book for you. BUT if you’re looking for a great storyline that will suck you in and keep you from doing anything else for a few hours, pick this one up!!
