Crooked Tree Ranch (Montana #1)

The Cowboy and the City Slicker.

On the spur of the moment, with his life collapsing around him, Jay Sullivan answers an ad for a business manager with an expertise in marketing, on a dude ranch in Montana.

With his sister, Ashley, niece, Kirsten and nephew, Josh, in tow, he moves lock stock and barrel from New York to Montana to start a new life on Crooked Tree Ranch.

Foreman and part owner of the ranch, ex rodeo star Nathaniel 'Nate' Todd has been running the dude ranch, for five years ever since his mentor Marcus Allen became ill.

His brothers convince him that he needs to get an expert in to help the business grow. He knows things have to change and but when the new guy turns up, with a troubled family in tow - he just isn't prepared for how much.

4 out of 5 stars

Nate and Jay are quite the pair. A cowboy and a city guy. What could they possible have in common? How would they ever find any kind of relationship doable? For a good portion of the book, I didn’t see it happening either!

I felt an almost instant connect with Jay. He was living with his sister helping her raise her two kids and I just really connected with his struggles and family values. I struggled a little more at first to connect with Nate, but once I did, I really fell for him, too. He is also dedicated to his family and trying to make sure that everyone has the best of everything. I felt like their first encounter was perfectly written, too. They might have a lot in common, but they definitely come from two very different worlds!

One of the best descriptions of characters came from inside Jay’s head as he was describing the Todd brothers:

The Todd brothers were different. Gabe was pretty--really pretty; there was a softness about him that spoke of romance. Luke was young and relaxed and gave the impression he was easy in his own skin. Nate, on the other hand, was hardness personified: in the way he held himself, the way  he sat silent, the fact that his flinty eyes were cold.

Once they both become more easy going with each other and start teasing and flirting, the story really picks up quickly. I enjoyed the humor and the seriousness of this book. One of the most poignant quotes from the story comes the first time they admit their real feelings. After Jay admits to falling too far and too fast, Nate has to answer:

The honesty cut through Nate like a knife, and he knew he had to be truthful in return. “I know I’m falling for you,” he admitted. He added brokenly, “We can be scared together.”

I would totally recommend this book to others! It was heartwarming and sweet and all around a fun read.

The Rancher's Son (Montana #2)

A man without memories, and the cop who never gave up hope.

When he wakes up in the hospital, the victim of a brutal beating, John Doe has no memories of who he is or who hurt him. The cops can find nothing to identify him and he can't remember anything to help... except the name Ethan and one recurring place from his dreams. Two words, and they're not much, but it's a start: Crooked Tree.

Detective Ethan Allens has never stopped searching for the two boys who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan's desk that may give new leads, he jumps at the chance to follow them up. The man he finds isn't his brother, but it's someone who could maybe help him discover what happened twelve years ago.

What neither man can know is that facing the very real demons of the past could destroy any kind of future they may have together.

4 1/2 out of 5 stars

This is the 2nd book in the series, but can totally be read as a standalone. There is a little history in the other book, but I didn’t feel like I would have missed anything if I hadn’t read the first book.

These characters were part of my heart early. I wanted the best for all of them, but especially Ethan and Adam. Ethan had spent most of his life trying to find his brother and his brother’s friend. A random call finds him in Chicago and he discovers Adam, the friend. From here the story is just getting started!

Adam was beaten severely and has no memory of his life. Ethan is determined to help him though it’s mostly selfish reasons of wanting to find more about his brother. There are times when Adam has a memory come back or says something that I would just call “cute” that really made me fall more in love with them as a couple because Ethan always said the right thing.

This author just gets me in the gut!! I finished Crooked Tree a week ago, but the feelings all came right back even though the characters are different….My feelings are hanging in limbo for Adam and all that he’s lost even though he’s not aware of what that might be.

I think this scene really explains who Ethan is and what he is struggling with on top of not forcing Adam’s memory back and letting it all come naturally:

I was only seventeen what did I know about love? Hell, Adam was only fifteen when he vanished. We’d only kissed once. What can that possibly mean in the cold light of day twelve years later?

The way Adam’s memories com back slowly and at random times seems realistic and the fact that Marcus and Ethan are finding a new path does as well! I really enjoyed this book and then HOLY COW - there was a twist I didn’t see coming!!!

I am so glad I get to be a part of this review tour and get to know the men of Crooked Tree Ranch. Loving all of it so far and I can't wait to get the next book!!!

A Cowboy's Home (Montana #3)

One burned and broken man finds his way home. Can he find peace in the arms of a man easy to love?

Justin made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, battling domestic terrorism, never the man he really was, using hate to avenge the death of his best friend. The friend he'd killed.

What he doesn’t count on is getting shot, and if he's going to die he wants it to be on Crooked Tree soil. Home.

Sam is as much a part of Crooked Tree as any of the families, and the offer to buy into the ranch is a dream come true. But falling for a hidden, secretive, injured man isn’t the way to keep his head in the game.

4 1/2 out of 5 stars

I am so enjoying this series and so,s o glad that the author is bringing us a fourth book later this year. Sam has been a favorite character of mine in the background since the first book and I’m super glad to see him in his own book. Justin seems so broken - almost as much as Adam AND he tells us things about Adam we didn’t even know. I was glad to add him to the list of characters from Crooked Tree Ranch

The slow way that people at the ranch learn about Justin was heartbreaking...for him and them, and me as a reader. Without giving the plot away it just felt like every time another person learned about Justin, the story got a little more sad. And poor Sam was stuck in the middle as an outsider, but someone that Justin was coming to rely on a great deal.

The ending of the story was perfectly wrapped up. Justin and Sam make my heart happy despite all the bad they have faced in their pasts, they are figuring out their new together. This story was absolutely great from page 1 and I was hooked till the end!

I swear this author gets me right in the gut with every book. I can’t put the book down and I just want it all to be okay and I so enjoy watching it all unfold. I can’t wait to read the next book very soon.

Snow In Montana (Montana #4)
An actor in the closet, a sheriff in love, and memories that won’t stay hidden.

Jordan Darby is known as the King of Christmas. The star of eight made-for-TV Christmas movies, the leading man who always gets his girl. Filming at Crooked Tree Ranch in Montana, in the ice and snow, Jordan is fighting to make a go of his new company and dealing with fears of exposure over one huge secret. After all, who the hell would buy into him being a romantic straight lead if rumors about him being gay were proven to be true?

Sheriff Ryan Carter is advising on the new movie being made at Crooked Tree. He hoped this would be one day of work and nothing more. Until, that is, he meets the hero. But while Jordan is sexy, he’s also very much stuck in the closet—everything that Ryan doesn’t need in his life. And then lust becomes part of the equation, and Ryan’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil.

Their story unfolds against the chaos that overtakes the ranch, with Adam regaining memories that terrify him and make him look at Justin differently, and Justin leaving the ranch to make things right. Only through trusting in love and friendship can Justin and Adam learn to look to the future instead of letting the past destroy everything. But will they ever see clearly enough to do that?

4 out of 5 stars

I have enjoyed this series and getting to know all of the guys at Crooked Tree Ranch. This story centers on Sheriff Ryan and B-List Actor Jordan, but all of the favs made appearances as well!

Ryan, the sheriff of the town closest to Crooked Tree, is out and ready to settle down, but Jordan is still in the closet for the most part trying to build a new movie company. With the chance at a hot encounter for the time of filming, they agree to see each other and see what happens.

In the background of the story, Adam and Justin are still trying to come to terms with everything that has happened to them since they were kidnapped from Crooked Tree as teenagers.

I enjoy this series and love the way Ms Scott is able to bring the characters to life and give me a glimpse at the different aspects of Montana life.
