It felt like forever to wait for this conclusion, but the wait was oh so worth it!!! Penn and Cora had a very rocky time in the first book of this duet and it doesn’t all just disappear as their story continues.
I loved the raw emotions of all of the characters in this story. I loved the way the story unfolded and was told from both points of view. I loved how there was so much love - even in the hate! I don’t want to give anything away in this review so I’ll keep it at all of these things I loved and not rehash the plot...
I have read most everything written by this author and she just keeps getting better and better. These characters seem like real people. People I want only the best for after the hell they’ve lived. I just can’t say enough good things about this duet. It’s definitely a must read!!!!

I have to be completely honest, I started this book and then had to lay it aside for a few days and get back to it...but once I went back to it, I couldn’t put it down!!
Honestly, this story is heartbreaking. It’s hard to read at times (hince me having to put it aside for a few days), but it’s also heartwarming and perfect!!! Cora has had a really, really rough life. Penn has witnessed what no one wants to witness. They should have never met. They should have nothing in common. Yet, their hearts connect in a way that neither of them is prepared to deal with.
The writing was so great - I felt like I was right there in that run down building in Chicago along with Cora, Penn, Drew and all the girls. I could feel their heartache and I could feel their hope. I loved how gentle Penn was despite his appearances. I loved how the game Truth or Lie saved them from the hard things and yet really didn’t hide anything. It was so well written and conveyed such an amazing story - not unlike her other books. Even though I knew this book is the first in a duet and that I wouldn’t have the complete story, I still finished with over 100 questions, and I so can’t wait for he next book because I am DYING to know what’s going to happen to all of these characters!!!
