From the moment I saw her through the window of her flower shop, something other than darkness took root inside me. Charlie shone like a beacon in a world that had long since lost any light. But she was never meant for me, a man that killed without remorse and collected bounties drenched in blood.
I thought staying away would keep her safe, would shield her from me. I was wrong. Danger followed in my wake like death at a slaughter house. I protected her from the threats that circled like black buzzards, kept her safe with kill after kill.
But everything comes with a price, especially second chances for a man like me.
Killing for her was easy. It was living for her that turned out to be the hard part.
Author's Note: This is a full-length romance novel. Explicit violence and hot sex included. HEA, no cheating.

4.5 of 5 Hearts
This is my first book by Celia Aaron and most certainly will not be my last. Celia did an exceptional job at placing her reader into her story, allowing them to feel the hurt, comfort, and panic of her leading characters. I loved the suspense side of this book. The chase kept me flipping the pages.
The only thing that is holding me back from giving this book 5 hearts is that I did not feel it was a dark as it could have been. The synopsis had me believing this would be one dark terrifying roller coaster. It was dark, but for me, it skimmed the darker side a few times but did not dive full blown into the chaos I would have expected it Conrad Mercer's life to be.
Don't get me wrong, Conrad Mercer or as leading lady Charlie liked to call him Con is the dark angel of death. His entire life he had worked his way up the food chain to number one mercenary to the mafia kings of his time. He was an equal opportunity killer. You put in the request and payment in and Conrad is your man.
Conrad had never felt love or anything close to love before his broken angel Charlie. He had watched Charlie for months at her flower shop 'Jesse's Flower Pot'. He never expected their world to collide until it happened that gruesome night.
Charlie was content in her little life. She had accepted her life would not be fulfilled with love and bliss and had decided that was okay. Or so she thought. She noticed the man who watched her but never felt threatened and decided it was best to not ruffle any feathers.
Conrad may not have wanted to find love and salvation but sometimes that is what happens when you least expect it.
Conrad just thought he knew his girl, boy was he wrong. Charlie kept this angel of death on his toes and then some. Every time Charlie surprised Conrad, I smiled. He learned rather quick that his girl could hold her own with the best of them.
"I had two thoughts. The first: where the hell did she get that? The second: F*$king hell, I love this woman."
By the end of this book, two things happened. One, I was not ready to let these two go.
Second, NATE needs his own book! I mean NATE and his antics had me laughing constantly. He was the comedic relief when we needed one. I want to see Nate get his world rocked when he meets a woman. I mean, he does say he has the body of a god and men and women should notice. HEHE
