Release Date: October 13, 2015
4 out of 5 stars
Annie and Dylan share a connection that few others ever get to share and yet they share most of it on the phone. Annie is running from a dangerous past. Dylan is hiding from the world. How they connect and the story they share is amazing and intriguing.
Annie has just moved into a trailer park after zig-zagging her way across the country. She’s running from something though we don’t know what yet. When she sits on the couch, she hears a phone and thinks the person before her must have left it by accident. Answering that phone changes everything for her.
Dylan is the mystery guy on the phone and he stays a mystery for most of the book. I loved the connection they shared on the phone and the way he was able to open her up to the world outside. I loved that Annie was stronger than she thought and was able to overcome so much.
I enjoyed the way Ms O’Keefe told the story with the occasional flashback, the interweaving of characters, and a little mystery. I’m super excited to see what happens next and can’t wait for book 2.
I enjoyed reading why the author chose some of the songs that she did. Here are just a few of them:
Florence and The Machine – What Kind Of Man.
And with one kiss
You inspired a fire of devotion
That lasted for twenty years
What kind of man loves like this?
You inspired a fire of devotion
That lasted for twenty years
What kind of man loves like this?
The music of Florence and The Machine is like my spirit animal. I wish I could write something so perfectly sexy and broken and personal and smart, popular and totally outside the box at the same time. I love love love this music. And this song fits Annie’s utter dumbstruck and perhaps ill-fated fascination with the man on the other end of the phone…
Maroon 5 - - Animals
So if I run it's not enough
You're still in my head forever stuck
So you can do what you wanna do
I love your lies, I'll eat 'em up
But don't deny the animal
That comes alive when I'm inside you
You're still in my head forever stuck
So you can do what you wanna do
I love your lies, I'll eat 'em up
But don't deny the animal
That comes alive when I'm inside you
One of the sexiest songs sung by one of the sexiest men in the world – this was one of the first songs on my playlist. It’s just. So. Sexy.
Rachel Platten – Fight Song
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
My kids are totally obsessed with this song. I hear it in my sleep and it’s a great song that encapsulates Annie’s journey.
