Veronica Maxwell has never fit in. Not into the cliques in high school, not even in her own family. Her mother was only concerned about her daughter gaining weight, and her father wasn't much better. So, she turned to martial arts as a way of venting out that anger, and that's how she ended up in the ring, fighting her ass off, fired up and ready to compete.
Mikel Taso is used to fighting. He lives in a world of constant war; clans fighting clans and shifters fighting shifters. But when his clan is threatened by extinction, he knows he has no other choice but to abandon his planet for a thriving one: earth. And that's how he came face to face with our kick-ass heroine, and the one woman he believes is his one true mate.
When these two fighters' cross paths, it sets in motion a series of events that will not only test their will to survive against all odds, but to survive each other. And Veronica isn't going down without a fight.

Not only was this my first book by author Catherine Vale, it was also my first sci-fi shifter book combo! That alone intrigued me. I never thought about a shirt werebear from another galaxy! I really enjoyed that aspect of this story.

Catherine's description of the far off planet was breathtaking. They way Veronica describe what she was seeing had me visualizing it along with her.  I also loved how the shifters resembled our animals but did not. It was fun imaging the other world.

The beginning of this book dragged on for me a little. There was too much for their first encounter for me. I did love the heroine Veronica Maxwell "Max" warrior attitude. She instantly went all protector and don't screw with me mode.  Her first encounter with Mikel Taso was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the push and pull.

Max never thought about the what ifs like many do.  She had a hard time accepting the alien shifter until her instincts to survive kicked in. Max slowly but surely accepted Makel for what he was and what he stood for.

One of my favorite things about this book is that Makel may have been a powerful domineering shifter but he wanted his mate to love him and want to be with him. His softer side would come out and you could not help but want to hug him.

He knew that Max was a strong warrior, he just did not realize how much she would complement him. Watching Makel and Max find a perfect rhythm was nice. They complemented each other very well.

This will not be the last book I read by Catherine Vale. I really enjoyed her description and her unique twist to her story.
