Synopsis:
Military technology, shrouded in secrecy and isolation. So was the man that gave it life…or so he thought.
Playboy Brad Scott spent years avoiding love, his heart and mind dedicated to only one thing—global security. That is, until he meets the elusive Alexandria Saunders, daughter of one of the wealthiest men in military technology and the fiercest corporate attorney in the mixing bowl. Alexis tears Brad’s world apart the moment they meet and with a single touch, becomes the breath against his fire…his obsession.
Unwilling to trust any man due to her haunted past, Alexis has allowed her career to consume her life until nothing else seemed important. While Brad’s devastatingly good looks and charming ways do little to impress Alexis, his touch has managed to crack the walls—walls she had built to protect her heart. If Alexis can overcome her insecurities and fear, will she finally discover the man of her dreams—the man whose touch will heal her wounds and ignite the inextinguishable flame within her?
With an IQ of 229, Brad has been responsible for the most advanced developments in the history of surveillance systems. With Alexis at his side, he has realized the greatest breakthrough of the century in military technology. Now, the world wants what he knows and will stop at nothing to hunt him down.
In a game of betrayal, terrorists seem determined to destroy Brad but should they fail, they’ll opt to eradicate the next best thing—Alexis. In a race against time, can Brad swallow his pride and allow former CIA agent John Martin to help him save the only woman who has the power to save him from himself? Along the way, can they save the world from the horrors about to be unleashed?

  Author Interview:

1. Are there any other novels that you have published?

No, Touched by a Phoenix is my debut novel.

2. What is next for you as an author?

I am currently working on the extension/conclusion of Touched by a Phoenix resolving the burning question on everyone’s mind, “Who was the mastermind?”  It also gives me the opportunity to write that fairy tale ending.  Afterwards, I have several more storylines waiting in the wings.
3. Can you tell your current readers or new ones that are just coming across you today something about yourself that they might not know?

Let’s see, I think there might be one or two interesting tidbits to share.  Sophia Byron is a pseudonym name.  I have a full-time job, a wonderful husband, and three adult children each with their spouses, and one very precocious grandson so far.  I have a dry sense of humor so when I do spout off something funny, it tends to shock people.  I’m an excellent cook although I enjoy baking more but either way, I hate cleaning up the mess and yes, I make a monster of a mess!  I love to fish, and oh…I have a ‘hole-in-one’ and am on the US Golf Register.  My husband was thrilled, I was simply happy that I didn’t have to putt out the hole :o)

Rating: 4 of 5 Hearts

When I started this book, I really did not know what to expect besides I loved this cover. Author Sophia Byroi did a fantastic job at matching this cover to how she describes her heroine in this story. I always love when the covers and the stories are in sync with one another.

The first half of this book is full of description,  emotion, and not a lot of action. For me it took this story a long time to start moving and I am all about some description in a story. We know how Brad and Alexandria feel about one another but and how much they love each other but to me that was it.  I personally would have liked to see something conspire earlier in the story. It was hard for me to stay engaged.

All the banter between Alexandria and her inner voice “Demi” was a bit confusing at times. She had so many dialogs with her that  I felt she was a character and not Alexandria’s inner dialog.

Once things started to fall into place this story really started to move.  I loved it when the mystery part of the story kicked in around 50% in. We see just how far Alexandria and Brad would go to protect the other. Their love for one another was strong once they finally made that commitment to each other.

The ending of this book there is tons of action and a few great twists happening that really kept me flipping the pages.

Now let's talk about that fiery redhead Alexandria Saunders. This girl demanded attention and power and really did not know how to live outside of the walls she had built up around her. I loved seeing Brad push  Alexandria to new heights and encourage her to go past what she normally would. Brad taught her so much about herself she never really knew.

From the moment Alexandria described Mr. Brad Scott, I was smitten with him.  I loved how just his looks rattled this girl to the core. And man does he sound smoldering. I’ll take one of him. Mr. tall dark and handsome!

Brad Scott is a genus in every sense of the word and it bothers Alexandria that this man may be taking advantage of her father. The best parts for me at the beginning was reading how he was nothing how she thought he would be. And this man knew just how to woo any woman. Poor Axis really never stood a chance against Brad's charm.

“You are the strongest person I know, Alexandria. When you are lost, I will always find you and bring you home.”
