This is a wonderful debut novel from a new male author. I enjoy finding new authors and uncovering stories that are more than just sex.

This story is told from dual points of view by both Kyle & Janny. Kyle is a private investigator who was hired to look into a woman’s husband and discover’s the husband’s little sister via the surveillance cameras. At first he just watches, but a random run-in (literally, they ran into each other at the club) shows him he needs to get to know Janny more.

The novel goes through their relationship and there are arcs of good and bad. There’s a crazy twist and plenty of swoony/sexy times. I found myself so eager to learn more about Kyle. I felt like he was such a mystery and I wanted to learn more and more about him. Janny wasn’t such a mystery, but she did wear her emotions and I found myself rooting for both of them.

If you’d asked me when I was in college what I thought I would be doing in ten years’ time, this wouldn’t have been my answer. Life as a private investigator isn’t as exciting as one might think. Sure, there are moments of danger which get my adrenaline pumping and when that happens, no other high can compare. I used to live for that feeling and for a while you could even say I was addicted to it. But the choices we make have consequences and one decision can change everything.

These days I do a lot of watching and even more waiting. I’m the guy people pay to find the truth buried under all the lies. Eventually, I see past the surface of who you’re pretending to be, revealing all that you’ve kept hidden and I know firsthand appearances can be deceiving.
