A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That is the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and he has no desire to change his ways.
Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss.
Until the day, he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract— fiancée instead of PA.
What happens when two people who loathe each other, have to live together and act as though they are madly in love?
Sparks.
That’s what happens.
Can the power of love really change a person?
Will they survive the contract?
What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can’t live without?

Lora's Review
4.5 of 5 Hearts
When I started reading this book, I almost quit. I wanted to throw my Kindle and worried that Richard VanRyan was going to be an @$$ for entirely too much of the book and I wasn’t going to enjoy watching his behavior toward Katy continue. So I went on Goodreads and looked at the reviews for the book and decided that I’d keep trying and see what happened - I mean EVERYONE else loved it so there had to be something redeeming about it all, right?

The premise of the story is pretty simple, Richard needs a pretend fiance to land the job at his dream agency and really screw over his current boss. Richard hires his secretary whom he despises and treats worse than any human ever deserves to be treated. Even when he’s trying to talk her into all of it, his words are grating and irritating:

“It wouldn't be all that awful, you know. I’m a good-looking man, I know my way around the bedroom, and I can make sure you enjoy yourself.”

Katy agrees, but not for herself! She is dedicated to making sure her foster mom has the best care possible and the money that Richard offers would guarantee that for sure. What he sees as a meek woman, soon shows him that she does indeed have a backbone and she’s going to give him hell.

In the process, both of them change and adapt to the new world. I loved watching all of it happen mostly from Richard’s POV and seeing how much Katy cared about him and wanted the best for him...which she was giving him without even realizing it.

This novel gets a 4.5 rating because of the great relationships that were developed and acknowledged thru the entire book. Even the negative relationships that were in the beginning add to the story and helped me feel more connected to the characters. The Gavin family was amazing and Penny made the story. I couldn’t have enjoyed the story without all of them.

And the drama was bound to be there, but I never felt like it was forced or unreal. The story was well crafted and I am glad I stuck with it to the end!

Melanie Moreland lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of twenty-six-plus years. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.

Known as the quiet one with the big laugh, Melanie works at a local university and for its football team.  Her job, while demanding, is rewarding as she cheers on her team to victory.

While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties,  and also enjoys travelling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip.

Melanie delights in a good romance story with some bumps along the way, but is a true believer in happily ever after.  When her head isn’t buried in a book, it is bent over a keyboard, furiously typing away as her characters dictate their creative storylines to her, often with a large glass of wine keeping her company.
