The Contract

A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That is the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and he has no desire to change his ways.
Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss.
Until the day, he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract— fiancée instead of PA.
What happens when two people who loathe each other, have to live together and act as though they are madly in love?
Sparks.
That’s what happens.
Can the power of love really change a person?
Will they survive the contract?
What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can’t live without?
5 of 5 Hearts
If you have not read a book by Melanie Moreland you are surely missing out. Melanie’s writing is effortless as she sucks you into the world of her characters. I just love getting lost in her stories. This book was no exception.

Melanie does not rush her stories, the stories play out at a nice pace that lets you experience everything with her characters. Never do you feel she rushed right past something to get to the next big thing. They are always a nice steady progression.

This book is about accepting yourself for who you are, realizing that what your thought about someone else probably isn’t the real picture, and to learn to love yourself and let others in. I just loved the journey both leads in this story went on. They both had so much growth throughout this story. The ending was just perfect.

When this book starts out we get to see just what a tyrant Richard VanRyan could really be. This man would do anything to get his way. I swear I wanted to crawl in this book and smack in on the back of the head on numerous instances. And on occasion, I wanted to throw my kindle at his head. He thought he was above everyone and I MEAN everyone.

Katherine Elliot is that girl who would do anything for someone she loved. Who would put up with Satan himself and not object just to get the job done. She was a saint in many eyes but never would ask a soul for anything extra in life. She was not a beggar.

When Richard asks Katherine to be his fake finance, I was expecting her to throw up a little in her mouth. She could not stand her arrogant boss. Who could blame her. He was a royal buttmunch. But she needed the money for something bigger than herself.

I loved how Katherine challenged Richard for the better. She made him see the world through her eyes and what is was truly all about. It wasn’t the money he so easily threw around. It was about finding your inner happiness and letting people into your world.

I absolutely love this quote. It lets us see that Katherine will put him into his place. I did a little fist bump here.

“If you’re not even going to attempt to be polite, or at least be a decent human being, this isn’t going to work. I can’t turn my feelings off that quickly.” I tugged on my stubborn cowlick in vexation. “What do you want from me, Miss Elliott?”“Could we not at least try and get along? Surely we can find something we have in common and engage in a conversation without your veiled insults and holier-than-thou attitude.” A grin tugged at my lips. Once again , I was catching a little backbone in Miss Elliott.

I was like Richard there. I was all gooooo Katherine. You tell him girl!

If you are looking for a book to fall in love with you need to give this bad boy a try. It is one of my favorite books of all time.

Melanie Moreland lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of twenty-six-plus years. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.

Known as the quiet one with the big laugh, Melanie works at a local university and for its football team.  Her job, while demanding, is rewarding as she cheers on her team to victory.

While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties,  and also enjoys travelling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip.

Melanie delights in a good romance story with some bumps along the way, but is a true believer in happily ever after.  When her head isn’t buried in a book, it is bent over a keyboard, furiously typing away as her characters dictate their creative storylines to her, often with a large glass of wine keeping her company.
