“Nope. I was trying to archive, but the more I dug in, the more I found needed to be organized or thrown away before the archiving could even start. One thing led to another, and now”— Sutton surveyed the disaster zone with one hand on her hip—“I have this.”
“Sarah Callaway, God rest her, wasn’t in the habit of organizing or discarding.”
“No,” she agreed. “She sure wasn’t.” Sutton picked up a sun-faded green envelope from the floor and held it up as proof. “This is a Christmas card someone sent to the ranch in nineteen seventy-six.” Flint smiled and straight, sparkling-white teeth greeted her. “There’s a whole shelf dedicated to old Christmas cards in the closet.” She shook her head since the why of it eluded her. “And the broken file cabinets Grams had butted up against the far wall in there are filled with things like ancient typewriter parts, pieces of CB radios, old Ma Bell phones, and miscellaneous other trinkets which probably belong in a museum.” She heaved a sigh. “I fear it’s going to take me days on just this office cleanup project alone.”
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“I don’t think so, Flint. But, I appreciate the offer.”
“I’m happy to help out in any way I can,” he said. “All you’ve got to do is ask.”
“I know. Thank you.”
He tipped back the brim of his black Stetson. “The reason I came to see you—”
