Blurb

Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist forOxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

4 ½ out of 5 stars

Jackson and Mollie took my heart and kidnapped it...I wish they would bring it back!!

Jackson Burke is living a life he never wanted. Mollie Carrington is exactly where she’s always wanted to be. They are both in NYC and they are both fighting something they don’t completely understand.

Mollie is Jackson’s ex-wife’s little sister. They have history, but when he sees her in a sexy red dress he can’t help but think of her differently than he did all those years ago. Mollie has always crushed on Jackson and nothing really changed with time.

I loved the character development in this story. Usually authors focus on young adults making life changing decisions and finding their way. Jackson would not qualify as young adult, but he does make some major life changes and the way he goes about it made me smile more than frown. Mollie is the “mature” one in this story and the way she handles Jackson makes me happy, too.

This was my first book in this series and though I think it would have been helpful to read the other, it wasn’t hard to follow, BUT this group at Oxford is one I really hope to meet again soon. Their connections with each other are beyond anything I have ever had and I loved that feeling for Jackson as I was reading.

So happy I got the chance to read this book and an share my opinion with others. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a light read with humor, sass, hot sex and generally leaves you feeling better about the romance world!!
